Although living in South Florida means it’s usually not “sweater weather” during the holidays, making your home festive can be fun. As South Florida interior designers, our team has a few tips on hosting Florida-style holidays.
Holiday Décor with Florida Flair
With guests arriving for holiday gatherings and meals, ’tis the season to decorate the outside of your home. Add some holiday cheer by decorating the front entry with pots of poinsettias or a wreath of palm fronds embellished with a beautiful red or blue ribbon. Decorations that resemble traditional holiday décor but with a Florida flair will make your home familiar and inviting.
Don’t Limit Yourself to Red and Green; think blue, too!
Hues of blue reminiscent of the ocean or cream and gold, like glistening sand, added to your Christmas tree or Hanukkah table, bring a tropical twist on traditional elements. These soft color palettes are cozy and create a feeling of peace and tranquility while still being festive.
Natural Decor
Don’t want to take away from the ocean view out your window? Try using simple, organic elements to create a natural and comfortable environment. Bring the beach indoors by adding a shaggy cream rug to your living room or driftwood accessories to your coffee table. Accent these elements with bits of red or blue for a festive feel.
Set the Table
The holiday season is when family, friends, and friends of friends will gather in your dining room to share a meal together. This gives you an excuse to splurge on new table accessories. Make your guests feel like guests dining in paradise by topping your table settings with greenery and a starfish or tying the napkins with nautical rope and a shell.
Nontraditional Wrapping Paper
The last thing you want is your seashell ornaments and cream stockings clashing with the gifts wrapped under the tree, so keep your holiday décor on theme by wrapping gifts in the style you decorated your home.
